Washington Drivers LicenseWhat if I don’t own a car?

If the DMV requires you carry an SR22 to keep your license from being suspended we can help even if you do not own a car. You can get what is called a “Broad Form” policy, or more commonly “License Insurance”. A Broad Form policy covers you when you are driving any vehicle, owned or non-owned. There are disadvantages to insuring your license. Be sure to talk to one of our knowledgeable insurance agents when making this important decision.

Can I get an SR22 on a car I don’t own?

Yes! You do not need to own a car in order to carry insurance or an SR22 on it. It is almost always better to put the insurance policy in the name of the vehicle owner and list you as a driver with an SR22, but it is not necessary. Again, discuss the options with one of our knowledgeable insurance agents when making this important decision.

Why is insurance so expensive if I don’t even have a car?

Insurance companies collect premiums from a large number of people so that when one of those people has an accident there will be enough money to pay the damages. They determine how much money each person must contribute to this “fund” based on how likely that person is to have an accident in the next year. Here are some of them:

  • Your age
  • Your marital status
  • Your insurance score (Similar to a credit score)
  • Your driving record
  • Your prior claims (possibly including not-at-fault accidents)
  • Claims history for your vehicle’s make and model
  • Claims history for the area you live
  • Length of continuous prior insurance coverage
  • Coverages you want to carry (Twice as much insurance doesn’t add much usually)
  • Other drivers info on the policy
