Is Cycle Insurance Required in Washington State?
What Motorcycle Insurance Coverage Should I Get?
- Liability insurance is the only protection that Washington state requires you to carry (effective July 2019). Liability coverage secures you if you are discovered at fault for an accident where another individual is injured or their property is harmed.
- Uninsured Motorist is, perhaps, the most essential insurance protection and is listed second simply because you can not get it without purchasing liability. With uninsured motorist, your insurance company covers you and any others in your car as if they were the uninsured chauffeur’s insurance company. In their October 2017 report, the Insurance Research Council reported that 17.4% of Washington drivers are uninsured.
- Medical coverage is an optional coverage and pays for any required medical treatment for you and any passengers up to the coverage amount you select. This can be essential if you do not have medical insurance to cover your medical expenses or you have a high-deductible health insurance.

What is Broad Form Motorcycle Insurance Coverage?
How Much Does Motorcycle Insurance Coverage Cost?
- Your Age: Statistics inform the insurer that if you are under 25 you are more probable to be involved in an accident than if you happen to be 30+.
- Your Driving Record: If you have collected speeding tickets or have been involved in an accident in the last few years, then your probabilities of having another wreck are greater.
- Your Motorbike: Particular motorcycles appear to encourage careless riders.
- Your Garaging Address: Crowded, urban areas also escalate your chances of being involved in an accident.
- Your Insurance Coverages: Naturally, if you purchase added insurance coverages your rate is going to be increased but just like when you purchase the bigger package at the food store, you also end up paying less per $1,000 of insurance. For example, increasing your liability insurance coverage from $25,000 per person to $50,000 per person will not double the cost yet probably raise it less than 20%.
- Your Discounts: Every company makes available various combinations of discounts. The more that match up with your situation, the more likely you will end up paying less. Some discounts available include: Multiple cycle, Multiple policy, Claim-free, Safety course, Paid-in-full, Motorcycle organization membership, and others.

About Joint Base Lewis-McChord
Joint Base Lewis–McChord (JBLM) is a U.S. military installation home to I Corps and 62d Airlift Wing located 9.1 miles (14.6 km) south-southwest of Tacoma, Washington under the jurisdiction of the United States Army Joint Base Headquarters, Joint Base Lewis–McChord. The facility is an amalgamation of the United States Army’s Fort Lewis and the United States Air Force’s McChord Air Force Base which merged on 1 February 2010 into a Joint Base as a result of Base Realignment and Closure Commission recommendations of 2005.
Joint Base Lewis–McChord is a training and mobilization center for all services and is the only Army power projection base west of the Rocky Mountains in the Continental United States. Its geographic location provides rapid access to the deep water ports of Tacoma, Olympia, and Seattle for deploying equipment. Units can be deployed from McChord Field, and individuals and small groups can also use nearby Sea-Tac Airport. The strategic location of the base provides Air Force units with the ability to conduct combat and humanitarian airlift with the C-17 Globemaster III.
In 1916, a combination of local civilian businessmen seeking the creation of a military base in the Puget Sound area and a military survey team approved a military post to be constructed near American Lake. Businessmen and Washington voters approved a donation of the land near American Lake to the United States government. The base (then known as Camp Lewis) would serve as a vital training base for United States soldiers during World War I. This base would be known as one of the most well managed and cheaply funded bases that was constructed during World War I. Additional construction of the camp would officially commemorate a renaming of Camp Lewis to Fort Lewis in 1927.
