What Our Customers Are Saying About Us

What is the difference between SR22 Insurance and Regular Car Insurance?

SR22 Insurance is just regular car insurance with a Certificate of Financial Responsibility filing added. So, there is really no difference between a regular insurance policy and an SR22 Insurance policy except that the insurance company promises to keep the state informed of the status of your insurance policy. So, whether you need to insure a car, truck, motorcycle, or no car at all (broad form or non owner car insurance) and you need an SR22, you are actually purchasing a regular insurance policy with an SR22 filing attached. Once your SR22 filing is no longer needed, you can have the SR22 removed and continue the same insurance policy. The SR22 is simply the way the state monitors whether or not you are meeting their requirement that you carry car insurance. So, if you allow your insurance policy to cancel or expire, the insurance company notifies the state and the state begins the process of suspending your drivers license again.

What is SR22 Insurance Filing / Financial Responsibility?

Proof of financial responsibility (aka  SR22 Insurance) is required by the Department of Licensing (DOL) in order to reinstate your driver’s license after getting your drivers license suspended or revoked for a DUI, too many tickets, etc. An SR-22 simply certifies to the DOL that you are carrying the car insurance they require. Sometimes SR22 Insurance is called a certificate of financial responsibility (CFR) filing. Having an SR-22 Insurance form on file simply means you are meeting the state’s minimum car insurance requirements. If you let your SR22 Insurance cancel, your insurance company is required to notify the state (with a SR26 form) and if you go long enough without the SR-22 Insurance, you may have to pay to reinstate your license once you get new SR22 Insurance.

Is SR22 Insurance Considered Car Insurance?

SR22 Insurance is proof you have car insurance. Kind of like the Insurance ID Card you would show the police if you were pulled over, the SR-22 Insurance form is filed with the Department of Licensing. Having SR22 Insurance is simply proof you are meeting the state’s minimum car insurance requirements and is just a rider on your car insurance. Your insurance provider is certifying to the state that you have liability insurance in force with them and a promise to notify them if your insurance cancels.

Can I Get SR22 Insurance If I Don’t Own a Car?

Yes, you can get SR22 Insurance even if you do not own a vehicle. If the Department of Licensing (DOL) requires you carry SR-22 Insurance to keep your license, we can help even if you do not own a car. You can get what is called a Broad Form Insurance policy, or more commonly “Drivers License Insurance”. A Broad Form policy covers you when you are driving any vehicle, owned or non-owned. There are disadvantages to insuring your license. Be sure to talk to one of our knowledgeable insurance agents when making this important decision. For more information about Broad Form insurance, check out our Broad Form insurance / Drivers License Insurance page.

How Do I Get SR22 Insurance?

To get SR22 Insurance you can ask your insurance agent to add it to your current auto insurance or start an SR-22 Insurance policy. Getting SR22 Insurance doesn’t have to be a hassle – Mid-Columbia Insurance is the Washington SR22 expert – we can walk you through the whole process! You can call us at (509)783-5600, come into one of our offices, or start the process online by filling out the quote request. The sooner you purchase your policy, the faster we can help you get your license back. You could spend all day searching the internet but it is unlikely that you will find a lower SR-22 cost and you will never find customer service that can beat what we can do for you.

Where Can I Find Cheap SR22 Insurance?

Mid-Columbia Insurance can get you cheap SR-22 Insurance quotes because we represent multiple insurance companies that compete for your business. The General, Geico, and Progressive spend millions advertising on TV trying to convince you they can save you money by buying insurance online only to disappoint. As an independent insurance agent, we work for you, shopping a whole list of car insurance companies to find you the best SR22 Insurance rates in Washington state. Most other auto insurance agencies, who we call AllStateFarmers, represent just their one company and only have one price to offer. We work for you, comparing the rates and coverages of multiple car insurance companies and giving you a choice.

Does SR22 Increase Insurance Rates?

An SR22 increases your insurance rates because most preferred insurance companies do not want to insure someone who needs an SR-22 and because of the tickets on your driving record. The actual SR22 Insurance filing will only add about $25 to your car insurance policy, but you will probably have to get insurance with a “High Risk” auto insurance company willing to take a chance of covering you.

Can My Current Agent Handle My SR22 Insurance?

Your current agent can add an SR22 Insurance filing to your car insurance policy but this may cause problems for you. Many insurance companies consider themselves “preferred” and do not want to insure individuals who require an SR-22 Insurance. They may raise your rates substantially or even cancel your policy at renewal when they find out you need SR-22 Insurance. Can I get SR22 Insurance from a different insurance company? Yes, you can have a different insurance agent file your SR22 Insurance with the state and not notify your current insurance company. If they don’t check your driving record, and unless there was an accident they probably won’t, you may be able to keep your preferred car insurance rates. If you don’t want to tell your current insurance agent about your need for SR22 Insurance, Mid-Columbia Insurance can write a basic insurance policy on your drivers license (called Broad Form Insurance) with the SR22 Insurance filing so you can keep your current “preferred” insurance on your cars and have SR-22 Insurance on your license.

How Long Do I Need To Have SR22 Insurance?

Usually you need to carry SR22 Insurance for 3 years but it could be more or less depending on the judge and your situation. The best way to find out how long you will need to have the SR-22 Insurance is to call the Department of Licensing at (360)902-3900 and ask them directly.

What Happens If I Cancel My SR22 Insurance?

If your SR22 Insurance cancels, the state will suspend your license until you get SR-22 Insurance filed again and you may have pay the reinstatement fees again to get your license back. When your SR22 Insurance cancels, the insurance company is required to file an SR26 with the state to notify them that you no longer have active insurance. If you are pulled over while your SR-22 Insurance is cancelled, you probably will get a ticket for driving while suspended, which will raise the cost of your insurance even higher.

How Can I Get the Cheapest SR22 Insurance Price?

The lowest SR22 Insurance price can be found by checking rates with multiple insurance companies that specialize in this situation. The easiest way to do that is to just call Mid-Columbia Insurance. We represent multiple SR22 Insurance companies – and we write lots of it. If you live in Washington state and need to get your license unsuspended, we can help. The SR-22 Insurance filing is sent electronically to the Department of Licensing (DOL) so you can get your license back fast. If you live in Washington you probably got your ticket here and so need Washington SR22 Insurance but, if you need it, we can also handle Oregon SR22 Insurance, California SR22 Insurance, Idaho SR22 Insurance, and just about every other state for Washington residents.

Can I Get An SR22 Insurance Without Having Car Insurance?

You can get an SR22 Insurance just by starting a new insurance policy and asking that insurance company to do the SR22 Insurance filing for you. Washington state only requires minimum liability limits on the policy so it does not have to be expensive if that is all you need. Of course, the more tickets you have on your driving record, the more your insurance will cost. A quick call and we can have your SR22 Insurance started and your SR22 filing on its way to the state.
