What is SR-22 Insurance coverage?
Sometimes an SR22 is also called a certificate of financial responsibility (CFR) filing. Having an SR-22 form on file merely means you are satisfying the state’s minimum automobile insurance requirements.
If you let your SR-22 insurance coverage cancel, your insurance provider is required to alert the state with a SR-26 form and if you go without the SR-22, you may have to pay a fine to get back your license once you get a brand-new SR 22.
Is an SR 22 considered car insurance coverage?
An SR-22 is evidence you have vehicle insurance coverage. Sort of like the Proof of Insurance Card you would show to a police if you were pulled over but the SR22 is submitted to the Department of Licensing (DOL).
Having an SR-22 is simply proof you are meeting the state’s minimum car insurance requirements and is just a rider on your auto insurance policy. Your insurance company is certifying to the DOL that you have liability insurance in force with them and they guarantee to notify the state if your insurance coverage terminates.
I Don’t Own an Automobile– Can I Still Get an SR-22?
Yes, you can get an SR 22 even if you do not own an auto. If the Department of Licensing (DOL) mandates you carry an SR-22 to resore your drivers license, we can help even if you don’t own a vehicle.
You can also get what is called a BroadForm Insurance policy, or more frequently “Drivers License Insurance”.
A BroadForm policy covers you when you are driving almost any automobile, owned or non-owned.
There are disadvantages to insuring your license. Make certain to talk to one of our well-informed insurance representatives when making this crucial decision.
For more information about Broad Form insurance, have a look at our Broad Form insurance/ Driver’s License Insurance page.

We work for you, comparing the prices and coverages of several vehicle insurers and providing you a choice.
Can My Present Company File My SR 22?
Your existing insurance company can attach an SR 22 to your insurance plan yet this may cause issues for you. Numerous insurance providers consider themselves “preferred” and so do not wish to insure individuals that require an SR 22. They may jack up your prices considerably and even terminate your plan at renewal when they find out you need an SR22.
Can I get an SR 22 from a different insurer?
Yes, you can have a different insurance company submit your SR22 with the state and not notify your current insurance provider. If they do not examine your driving record, and unless you had a crash they possibly will not, you might be able to maintain your preferred auto insurance policy rates.
If you do not wish to tell your current insurance representative regarding your need for an SR22, Mid-Columbia Insurance can write a standard insurance plan on your driver’s license (called Broad Form) with the SR 22 so you can keep your present “preferred” insurance coverage on your automobiles and have an SR-22 on your license.
Just How Much Is SR22 Insurance Coverage in Clark County?
The typical price of SR 22 insurance coverage should be less than $5 each month when included in an ordinary auto insurance policy because most insurance companies just charge about $25 per 6 month policy term for an SR 22 filing. This is just the charge the insurance provider includes to handle the documentation needed by the state to inform them that you have an active SR22 filing. If your insurance company charges more, you might want to get another quote and our agency can help!
Why, then, does SR-22 insurance appear so costly? An SR-22 is just a rider on your ordinary vehicle insurance. If it is pricey, it is due to the fact that the vehicle insurance rate is based on your actual driving record. Did you get a DUI? Several traffic tickets? Involved in an accident? Been without insurance? Obviously something took place to cause you to require the SR 22 and this is what causes your insurance coverage to be higher than others.
Just how much will SR-22 insurance cost? SR22 insurance is cheap. It is your driving record that is pricey.
How Long Am I Required to Have An SR 22?
Usually you have to have an SR22 for 3 years yet it can be more or less depending upon the court and your circumstances.
The best way to find out how long you are going to really need to carry an SR22 is to call the Washington Department of Licensing directly at 360-902-3900 and find out.
What Occurs If I Cancel My SR 22 Insurance Policy?
If your SR-22 insurance coverage cancels while an SR-22 is still required, the state will certainly suspend your license until you get another SR22 filed once more as well as you may need to pay the reinstatement charges once again to get your driver’s license back.
When your SR-22 cancels, the insurance provider is required to file an SR-26 with the state to notify them that you no longer have active insurance.
If you are pulled over while your SR 22 is canceled, you most likely will receive a ticket for driving while suspended, which will jack up the cost on your insurance coverage even higher.
Exactly How Can I Get The Cheapest SR-22 Insurance Rates?
The lowest SR22 insurance coverage rates can be had by looking at prices of a number of insurance providers that specialize in SR-22 insurance. The simplest means to do that is to just call us. We work with numerous insurance companies that provide SR-22 insurance– and we write lots of it.
If you live in Washington state and need to get your license reinstated, we can really help. The SR 22s are filed digitally with the state so you can have your driver’s license back quickly.
If you live in Washington you probably received your ticket here and so need a Washington SR-22 however, if you require an out-of-state SR22, we can also do Oregon SR22s, California SR-22s, Idaho SR-22, as well as almost every other state.
Can I Get An SR-22 Without Having Car Insurance Coverage?
If you don’t have auto insurance coverage, you can obtain an SR-22 by starting a new insurance policy and also asking the insurance agent to submit the SR 22 for you.
Washington state only calls for minimal coverage on the policy so it doesn’t need to be pricey to start. Naturally, the more tickets you have on your driving history, the more your insurance coverage will set you back.
A quick telephone call and we can have your insurance coverage set up and also your SR22 on its way to the state.
Does SR 22 Raise Insurance Prices?
Yes, an SR 22 raises your insurance policy prices because a lot of preferred insurance providers do not care to cover a driver that needs an SR22 and because of the tickets you most likely have on your motor vehicle history.
The real SR22 filing will just add about $25 to your vehicle insurance plan, yet you will most likely need to get insurance with a “High Risk” car insurance provider ready to take a chance on insuring you.
