What is SR 22 Insurance?
Often an SR22 is also called a certificate of financial responsibility (CFR) filing. Having an SR 22 form on file merely means you are fulfilling the state’s minimum car insurance requirements.
If you let your SR-22 insurance cancel, your insurance company is required to notify the state with a SR26 form and if you go long enough without the SR-22, you might need to pay the state to restore your license once you get a new SR22.
Is an SR22 the same as auto insurance coverage?
An SR22 is evidence you have automobile insurance. Sort of like the Proof of Insurance Card you would present to a police officer if you were pulled over but the SR22 form is submitted to the Department of Licensing (DOL).
Having an SR22 is merely proof you are meeting the DOL’s minimum vehicle insurance requirements and is simply an addition to your automobile insurance coverage. Your insurance company is verifying to the state that you have liability insurance in force with them and they guarantee to alert the state if your insurance cancels.
I Don’t Own a Cars or Truck– Can I Get an SR22?
Yes, you can get an SR 22 even if you do not own a vehicle. If the Department of Licensing (DOL) requires you have an SR22 to keep your driver’s license, we can assist even if you do not own a car.
You can also get what is called a BroadForm Insurance policy, or more frequently “Drivers License Insurance”.
A BroadForm plan covers you when you are driving almost any vehicle, owned or non-owned.
There are disadvantages to insuring your license. Be sure to speak to one of our knowledgeable insurance agents when making this essential decision.

Can My Present Agent File My SR 22?
Your current company can most likely attach an SR 22 to your insurance plan however this may create problems for you. Numerous insurance providers consider themselves “preferred” and so do not wish to insure individuals who require an SR-22. They may jack up your prices significantly or even terminate your plan at renewal when they find out you require an SR-22.
Can I get an SR-22 from a different insurance company?
Yes, you can have a different insurance company file your SR22 with the DOL and not inform your current insurance provider. If they do not inspect your driving history, and unless you had an accident they possibly will not, you might be able to keep your preferred auto insurance prices.
If you don’t want to inform your present insurance agent regarding your need for an SR22, Mid-Columbia Insurance can write a basic insurance policy on your ‘s license (called Broad Form) with the SR 22 so you can maintain your present “preferred” insurance on your vehicles and also have an SR-22 on your license.
Just How Much Is SR-22 Insurance in Federal Way?
The typical price of SR-22 insurance should be less than $5 per month when added to a regular car insurance plan given that the majority of insurance companies only charge about $25 per 6 month policy term for an SR22 filing. This is simply the fee the insurance provider includes to deal with the paperwork required by the state to alert them that you have an active SR22 filing. If your insurance company charges more, you might want to get a new quote and we can help!
Why, then, does SR22 insurance appear so pricey? An SR-22 is simply a rider on your regular car insurance. If it is pricey, it is because the car insurance rate is based on your actual driving record. Did you get a DUI? Numerous traffic tickets? Involved in a crash? Been without insurance coverage? Undoubtedly something happened to trigger you to require the SR-22 and this is what triggers your insurance to be higher than others.
How much does SR-22 insurance coverage run? SR22 insurance is affordable. It is your driving record that is costly.
How Long Am I Required to Have An SR 22?
Usually you need to have an SR22 for Three years but it could be more or less depending upon the court as well as your circumstances.
The most effective way to find out how long you are going to really need to have an SR22 is to call the Washington DOL directly at 360-902-3900 and ask them.
What Takes place If I Ever Terminate My SR22 Insurance?
If, while needed, your SR-22 insurance policy cancels while an SR-22 is still required, the state will re-suspend your license till you get another SR 22 filed once more and also you may have to pay the reinstatement costs again to get your drivers license back.
When your SR 22 cancels, the insurance provider is obliged to file an SR 26 with the state to inform them that you no longer have active insurance coverage.
If you are pulled over while your SR-22 is terminated, you most likely will receive a ticket for driving while suspended, which will certainly hike up the price on your insurance coverage even higher.

About Federal Way
Federal Way is a city in King County, Washington, United States. It is a city within the Seattle metropolitan area. The population was 89,306 at the 2010 census and an estimated 96,289 in 2019. Federal Way is the tenth largest city in Washington and the fifth largest in King County, according to the Census Bureau’s 2019 population estimate.
Originally a logging settlement, the area was first called “Federal Way” in 1929. The name derived from Federal Highway U.S. 99 (now State Route 99 or Pacific Highway South), which ran from Everett and Seattle to Tacoma. The name “Federal Way” was first used in 1929 when five existing schools consolidated operations into School District #210 and planned construction of Federal Way High School, which opened in 1930 and gave its name to the school district. The local chamber of commerce adopted the name in the early 1950s.
Attempts to incorporate the city were voted down in 1971, 1981 and 1985. The voters eventually approved incorporation as a city on February 28, 1990; the official act of incorporation was held at the Sportsworld Lanes bowling complex.
