If you let your SR22 insurance coverage go unpaid, your insurer is obligated to alert the state with a SR 26 form and if you go for a time without the SR-22, you might have to pay a fine to reinstate your license once you get a new SR22.

Is an SR-22 the same as car insurance coverage?

An SR-22 is evidence you have car insurance coverage. Kind of like the Proof of Insurance Card you would show to law enforcement if you were pulled over but the SR-22 is filed with the Department of Licensing (DOL).

Having an SR22 is just proof you are satisfying the DOL’s minimum auto insurance requirements and is simply a rider on your vehicle insurance . Your insurance provider is certifying to the state that you have liability insurance coverage in force with them and they promise to alert the DOL if your insurance coverage lapses.

Can My Present Insurance Agent File My SR 22?

Your existing insurance company should be able to attach an SR 22 to your insurance policy but this might trigger troubles for you. Many insurance companies consider themselves “preferred” and so do not wish to cover people who require an SR 22. They might increase your prices considerably or perhaps cancel your plan at renewal when they learn you require an SR22.

Can I obtain an SR-22 from a different insurance company?

Yes, you can have a different insurance provider file your SR22 with the state and not notify your present insurance company. If they do not check your driving record, and unless you had an accident they probably won’t, you might be able to maintain your preferred car insurance policy rates.

If you don’t intend to inform your present insurance coverage representative about your requirement for an SR22, Mid-Columbia Insurance can write a basic insurance policy on your driver’s license (called Broad Form) with the SR 22 so you can keep your current “preferred” insurance policy on your cars and trucks and have an SR-22 on your license.

How Much Is SR 22 Insurance Coverage in Freeland?

The average cost of SR 22 insurance should be less than $5 monthly when included in a typical vehicle insurance policy given that the majority of insurance providers just charge about $25 per 6 month policy term for an SR-22 filing. This is just the fee the insurance provider includes to deal with the documents needed by the state to notify them that you have an SR22 insurance filing. If your company charges more, it is time to get a new quote and our agency can help!

Why, then, does SR 22 insurance seem so expensive? An SR 22 is just a rider on your regular auto insurance. If it is pricey, it is because the auto insurance rate is based on your actual driving record. Did you get a ticket for driving under the influence? Numerous traffic tickets? Involved in a wreck? Been without insurance? Clearly something took place to trigger you to require the SR-22 and this is what triggers your insurance to be higher than others.

How much will SR-22 insurance coverage run? SR22 insurance is inexpensive. It is your driving record that is not.

For How Long Am I Required to Have An SR-22?

Generally you are required to have an SR 22 for 3 years but it could be more or less depending upon the judge as well as your circumstances.

The very best way to figure out how long you are going to need to carry an SR22 is to call the Washington DOL directly at (360)902-3900 and ask.

What Happens If I Ever Terminate My SR 22 Insurance?

If your SR 22 insurance policy terminates while an SR-22 is still mandated, the state will certainly re-suspend your license till you get another SR-22 filed once again and you might need to pay the reinstatement fees once more in order to get your drivers license back.

When your SR22 cancels, the insurance company is required to submit an SR 26 with the state to notify them that you no longer have active insurance.

A simple phone call and we can have your insurance coverage launched and also your SR22 on its way to the DOL.

Does SR-22 Raise Insurance Rates?

An SR-22 raises your insurance policy prices because a lot of name-brand insurers don’t want to cover someone that needs an SR22 and also because of the tickets you probably have on your motor vehicle record.

The actual SR22 filing will only add about $25 to your vehicle insurance policy, however you will most likely have to obtain insurance with a “High Risk” auto insurance company willing to take a chance on covering you.

About Freeland

Freeland is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) on Whidbey Island in Island County, Washington, United States. At the time of the 2010 census the population was 7,812. The town received its name based on its origins as a socialist commune in the early 1900s: in the eyes of its founders, the land of the town was literally to be free for all people. Some of the first settlers were veterans of a prior experiment in socialism, the nearby Equality Colony.

Some Equality Colony dissidents, led by George Washington Daniels, incorporated the Free Land Association in 1900 and established the colony on land they purchased through James P. Gleason of the Fidelity Trust company. Members purchased dividend-paying shares in the association store fund and the machinery fund. The association store operated according to Rochdale Principles, and shares in the store were sold to non-residents as well as association members. Because members could pay for their land with dividends from their shares, the founders considered the land to be “free”. By 1902, however, the colony announced that new settlers would have to purchase land outright, as the idealistic land-financing plan based on share dividends had not worked.

Daniels platted five-acre tracts with wide streets to form the original townsite. Additional plats were added over the next several years.
