What is SR-22 Insurance coverage?
Often an SR22 is also called a certificate of financial responsibility (CFR) filing. Having an SR22 form on file just proves you are fulfilling the state’s minimum vehicle insurance requirements.
If you let your SR 22 insurance lapse, your insurer is obliged to notify the state with a SR26 form and if you go for a time without the SR 22, you might need to pay a fine to reinstate your license once you get a new SR22.
Is an SR-22 considered car insurance?
An SR 22 is proof you have vehicle insurance coverage. Sort of like the Insurance ID Card you would show to law enforcement if you were pulled over but the SR-22 is filed with the Department of Licensing (DOL).
Having an SR22 is simply proof you are satisfying the state’s minimum car insurance requirements and is just a rider on your car insurance policy. Your insurance company is verifying to the state that you have liability insurance in force with them and they guarantee to inform the DOL if your insurance coverage terminates.
I Don’t Own an Automobile– Can I Still Get an SR22?
Yes, you can get an SR-22 even if you do not own a car. If the Department of Licensing (DOL) requires you have an SR-22 to keep your license, we can help even if you do not own a vehicle.
You can also get what is called a BroadForm Insurance plan, or more frequently “Drivers License Insurance”.
A BroadForm policy covers you when you are driving almost any car, owned or non-owned.
There are drawbacks to insuring your license. Make sure to speak with any of our knowledgeable insurance agents when making this important choice.

Can My Existing Insurance Company File My SR-22?
Your current company can most likely attach an SR-22 to your insurance policy yet this might cause troubles for you. Several insurance providers consider themselves “preferred” and do not wish to cover individuals that require an SR22. They may raise your rates significantly and even cancel your plan at renewal when they find out you need an SR-22.
Can I get an SR 22 from a different insurance company?
Yes, you can have a different insurance provider submit your SR22 with the state and not alert your existing insurance company. If they don’t examine your driving record, and unless there was an accident they most likely won’t, you may be able to maintain your preferred car insurance policy rates.
If you do not want to tell your current insurance coverage agent about your requirement for an SR22, Mid-Columbia Insurance can offer a simple insurance policy on your ‘s license (called Broad Form) with the SR 22 so you can maintain your existing “preferred” insurance policy on your cars and trucks and have an SR-22 on your license.
How Much Is SR 22 Insurance Coverage in Hazel Dell?
The average rate of SR22 insurance coverage ought to be less than $5 monthly when included in a regular car insurance policy since a lot of insurance providers only charge about $25 per 6 month policy term for an SR22 filing. This is just the cost the insurance provider charges to deal with the documentation required by the state to notify them that you have an active SR22 insurance filing. If your insurer charges more, it is time to get a new quote and Mid-Columbia Insurance would love to help!
Why, then, does SR22 insurance seem so pricey? An SR22 is simply a rider on your standard auto insurance. If it is costly, it is due to the fact that the auto insurance rate is based upon your driving record. Did you get a DUI? Multiple traffic tickets? Involved in a crash? Been without insurance coverage? Clearly something took place to cause you to need the SR22 and this is what triggers your insurance coverage to be higher than others.
How much does SR 22 insurance cost? SR22 insurance coverage is inexpensive. It is your driving record that is pricey.
For How Long Do I Need to Have My SR22?
Usually you need to carry an SR 22 for 3 years but it may be more or less depending upon the judge as well as your circumstances.
The very best way to find out how long you will really need to have an SR-22 is to call the Washington Department of Licensing directly at 360-902-3900 and ask.
What Takes place If I Ever Cancel My SR22 Insurance Policy?
If your SR 22 insurance terminates while an SR 22 is still required, the state will re-suspend your drivers license until you get an SR-22 submitted once more and also you might need to pay the reinstatement fees once again to get your driver’s license back.
When your SR 22 terminates, the insurer is obliged to file an SR26 with the DOL to alert them that you no longer have active insurance coverage.
If you are pulled over while your SR22 is terminated, you most likely will receive a ticket for driving while suspended, which will certainly jack up the price on your insurance policy even higher.

Can I Obtain An SR-22 Without Having An Auto Insurance Policy?
If you don’t have auto insurance, you can obtain an SR22 by starting a new insurance plan and also asking the insurer to submit the SR 22 for you.
Washington just calls for minimum liability limits on the plan so it does not need to be expensive to get insured. Certainly, the more tickets you have received, the more your insurance coverage will set you back.
A simple telephone call and we can have your insurance policy started as well as your SR 22 on its way to the state.
Does SR22 Hike Insurance Rates?
An SR-22 hikes your insurance policy prices since most name-brand insurance companies don’t desire to insure a driver that needs an SR22 and also because of the tickets you probably have on your motor vehicle history.
The actual SR22 filing will only add around $25 to your vehicle insurance policy, but you will probably need to get an insurance policy with a “High Risk” insurance provider ready to take a chance on covering you.
