Can My Current Agent File My SR 22?

Your existing company can attach an SR-22 to your insurance policy but this may cause troubles for you. They may raise your rates considerably or even terminate your plan at renewal when they learn you require an SR-22.

Can I get an SR22 from a different insurance agent?

Yes, you can have a different insurance company file your SR22 with the DOL and not alert your existing insurance provider. If they don’t check your driving record, and unless you were involved in a crash they most likely won’t, you might be able to keep your preferred car insurance rates.

If you don’t want to inform your current insurance coverage agent regarding your requirement for an SR22, Mid-Columbia Insurance can offer a standard insurance plan on your driver’s license (called Broad Form) with the SR 22 so you can keep your current “preferred” insurance policy on your automobiles and have an SR-22 on your license.

The typical cost of SR22 insurance coverage ought to be less than $5 per month when included in a normal auto insurance policy given that most insurers only charge about $25 per 6 month policy term for an SR-22 filing. This is simply the charge the insurer includes to deal with the documents required by the state to notify them that you have an SR22 filing. If your company charges more, you might want to get a new quote and we can help!

Why, then, does SR-22 insurance appear so expensive? An SR-22 is simply a rider on your standard car insurance policy. If it is expensive, it is because the auto insurance rate is based upon your real driving record. Did you get a ticket for driving under the influence? Multiple traffic tickets? Involved in an accident? Been without insurance? Undoubtedly something happened to cause you to need the SR-22 and this is what causes your insurance to be higher than others.

So, how much does SR22 insurance cost? SR22 insurance is inexpensive. It is your driving record that is expensive.

About Kalama

Kalama is a city in Cowlitz County, Washington, United States. It is part of the Longview, Washington Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 2,344, according to the 2010 census.

Kalama was first settled by Native Americans, particularly members of the Cowlitz Indian Tribes. The first white settler recorded was in 1853. That first settler was Ezra Meeker and his family. Only one year later, Meeker moved to north Puyallup, Washington, but he sold his Donation Land Claim to a Mr. Davenport, who, with a few others, permanently settled in the Kalama area. In early 1870, Northern Pacific Railway scouts came to Cowlitz County to find an ideal terminus along the Columbia River. After a failed negotiation for a Donation Land Claim in Martin’s Bluff, four miles south of Kalama, Northern Pacific officials purchased 700 acres in Kalama for the terminus of the new railroad as well as a new headquarters. The population swelled with employees of the Northern Pacific Railway.

Kalama was entirely a Northern Pacific railroad creation. It was unofficially born in May 1870 when the Northern Pacific railroad turned the first shovel of dirt. Northern Pacific built a dock, a sawmill, a car shop, a roundhouse, a turntable, hotels, a hospital, stores, homes. In just a few months in 1870, the working population skyrocketed to approximately 3,500 and the town had added tents, saloons, a brewery, and a gambling hall. Soon the town had a motto: “Rail Meets Sail”. Recruiters went to San Francisco and recruited Chinese labor, who moved to their own Chinatown in a part of Kalama now called China Gardens. The population of Kalama peaked at 5,000 people, but in early 1874, the railroad moved its headquarters to Tacoma, and by 1877, only 700 people remained in Kalama.
