What is SR 22 Insurance coverage?
Often an SR22 is called a certificate of financial responsibility (CFR) filing. Having an SR 22 form on file merely proves you are fulfilling the state’s minimum vehicle insurance requirements.
If you let your SR-22 insurance coverage lapse, your insurance company is required to inform the state with a SR26 form and if you go for a time without the SR22, you might need to pay the state to get back your license once you get a brand-new SR 22.
Is an SR-22 considered vehicle insurance?
An SR-22 is evidence you have car insurance. Sort of like the Insurance ID Card you would present to law enforcement if you were pulled over but the SR22 is filed with the Department of Licensing (DOL).
Having an SR22 is simply evidence you are satisfying the DOL’s minimum auto insurance requirements and is simply a rider on your vehicle insurance coverage. Your insurance company is verifying to the DOL that you have liability insurance coverage in force with them and they pledge to notify the state if your insurance terminates.
I Don’t Own a Cars or Truck– Can I Still Get an SR 22?
Yes, you can get an SR 22 even if you do not have an auto. If the Department of Licensing (DOL) mandates you carry an SR22 to keep your driver’s license, we can help even if you don’t own a cars or truck.
You can get what is called a Broad Form Insurance plan, or more commonly “Drivers License Insurance”.
A BroadForm plan covers you when you are driving almost any vehicle, owned or non-owned.

Can My Present Insurance Company File My SR-22?
Your present agent can attach an SR-22 to your insurance plan however this may trigger issues for you. They may increase your rates considerably or even terminate your plan at renewal when they learn you require an SR 22.
Can I get an SR22 from a different insurer?
Yes, you can have a different insurance provider file your SR22 with the DOL and not notify your present insurance provider. If they don’t examine your driving record, and unless there was an accident they probably will not, you probably can keep your preferred car insurance prices.
If you don’t intend to inform your existing insurance coverage agent about your need for an SR22, Mid-Columbia Insurance can write a basic insurance policy on your driver’s license (called Broad Form) with the SR 22 so you can maintain your present “preferred” insurance policy on your automobiles and have an SR-22 on your license.
Just How Much Is SR-22 Insurance in Malott?
The average cost of SR22 insurance coverage should be less than $5 each month when included in a regular auto insurance policy since many insurance companies only charge about $25 per 6 month policy term for an SR 22 filing. This is merely the cost the insurer charges to manage the documentation needed by the state to notify them that you have an active SR22 insurance filing. If your insurer charges more, you might want to get another quote and our agency is more than happy to help!
Why, then, does SR 22 insurance coverage appear so costly? An SR 22 is just a rider on your regular vehicle insurance. If it is pricey, it is because the vehicle insurance rate is based upon your real driving record. Did you get a ticket for driving under the influence? Several traffic tickets? Involved in a wreck? Been without insurance? Obviously something occurred to cause you to require the SR 22 and this is what triggers your insurance coverage to be higher than others.
Just how much will SR 22 insurance run? SR22 insurance coverage is inexpensive. It is your driving record that is expensive.
