Often an SR22 is also called a certificate of financial responsibility (CFR) filing. Having an SR 22 form on file just indicates you are fulfilling the state’s minimum automobile insurance coverage requirements.
If you let your SR 22 insurance cancel, your insurance company is required to inform the state with a SR 26 form and if you go for a time without the SR22, you may need to pay a fine to restore your license once you get a new SR 22.

Your existing insurance company can add an SR-22 to your insurance plan but this might create troubles for you. They might jack up your prices significantly and even terminate your policy at renewal when they learn you need an SR22.

Yes, you can have a different insurer submit your SR22 with the state and not notify your present insurance provider. If they don’t inspect your driving record, and unless you were involved in a crash they probably will not, you probably can keep your preferred vehicle insurance policy rates.
If you do not want to tell your present insurance policy agent about your requirement for an SR22, Mid-Columbia Insurance can offer a standard insurance plan on your driver’s license (called Broad Form) with the SR 22 so you can keep your present “preferred” insurance coverage on your cars and trucks and also have an SR-22 on your license.
Just How Much Is SR-22 Insurance in Whatcom County?
The typical price of SR-22 insurance should be less than $5 each month when added to a standard car insurance plan because the majority of insurers just charge about $25 per 6 month policy term for an SR-22 filing. If your company charges more, you might want to get another quote and Mid-Columbia Insurance is more than happy to help!
Why, then, does SR 22 insurance appear so costly? An SR22 is simply a rider on your ordinary vehicle insurance policy. If it is expensive, it is due to the fact that the car insurance rate is based upon your driving record. Did you get a DUI? Multiple traffic tickets? Involved in a crash? Been without insurance coverage? Clearly something occurred to cause you to require the SR-22 and this is what triggers your insurance to be higher than others.
So, how much does SR 22 insurance coverage run? SR22 insurance coverage is inexpensive. It is your driving record that is costly.
For How Long Am I Required to Have An SR 22?
Typically you need to have an SR22 for Three years but it can be more or less depending upon the judge and also your circumstances.
The most effective way to figure out how long you will really need to have an SR 22 is to call the Washington DOL directly and find out.
What Happens If I Terminate My SR-22 Insurance?
If, while mandated, your SR22 insurance coverage cancels while an SR22 is still needed, the state will certainly suspend your license till you get another SR-22 filed again and also you might need to pay the reinstatement charges once more to get your driver’s license back.
When your SR-22 terminates, the insurance provider is required to submit an SR-26 with the state to alert them that you no longer have active insurance.
If you are pulled over while your SR-22 is terminated, you probably will get a ticket for driving while suspended, which will jack up the price on your insurance policy even more.

Can I Get An SR-22 Without Having Auto Insurance Coverage?
If you don’t have auto insurance, you can get an SR-22 by starting a brand-new insurance plan and also asking the insurer to file the SR22 for you.
Washington state only calls for minimum liability limits on the policy so it doesn’t have to be costly to start. Obviously, the more tickets you have collected, the more your insurance coverage will cost you.
A simple telephone call and we can have your insurance policy set up and also your SR22 on its way to the DOL.
Does SR 22 Hike Insurance Rates?
An SR 22 hikes your insurance policy prices since most name-brand insurers do not desire to insure someone who requires an SR22 and also due to the tickets you probably have on your motor vehicle history.
The actual SR22 filing will just add around $25 to your vehicle insurance rates, but you will probably have to get insurance coverage with a “High Risk” auto insurance provider willing to take a chance on insuring you.

About Whatcom County
Whatcom County is a county located in the northwestern corner of the U.S. state of Washington, bordered by the Canadian Lower Mainland (the Metro Vancouver and Fraser Valley Regional Districts of British Columbia) to the north, the Okanogan County to the east, the Skagit County and San Juan County to the south and southwest, and the Salish Sea to the west. Its county seat and largest population center is the coastal city of Bellingham, comprising the Bellingham, WA Metropolitan Statistical Area, and as of the 2010 census, the county’s population was 201,140.
The county was created from Island County by the Washington Territorial Legislature in March 1854. It originally included the territory of present-day San Juan and Skagit Counties, which were later independently organized after additional settlement. Its name derives from the Lummi word Xwotʼqom, meaning “noisy water.” Whatcom County has a mixed economy with a significant agricultural base, including approximately 60% of the nation’s annual production of raspberries.
The Whatcom County area has known human habitation for at least twelve millennia. At least three aboriginal tribes have been identified in the area: Lummi (San Juan Islands, between Point Whitehorn and Chuckanut Bay), Nooksack (between Lynden and Maple Falls) and Semiahmoo (the northern portion, near Blaine).[failed verification][unreliable source?]
