TACOMA, Wash. – A 19-year-old Tacoma man was taken into custody this evening in relation to a road rage shooting incident that seriously injured an 11-year-old boy on Nov. 25.
The original incident was reported on northbound Interstate 5 near the Tacoma Mall at 2:22 p.m. Friday.
Witnesses reported seeing the driver of a dark-colored Chevrolet Cruze fire shots at a black Honda SUV. One of the gunshots struck an 11-year-old boy seated in the rear passenger seat of the Honda.
The boy was taken to a nearby fire station before being transported to an area hospital by aid. Thankfully, the boy is expected to make a full recovery.
Through witness information and the close partnership with the Tacoma Police Department (TPD), detectives were able to locate the vehicle believed to be involved in the incident at a residence in the 800 Block of South 78th Street in Tacoma.
WSP detectives obtained a search warrant that lead to the 19-year-old being taken into custody without incident by the WSP Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team in partnership with the Tacoma Police Department (TPD) SWAT team just before 8:30 p.m.
The 19-year-old was booked into Pierce County Jail for First Degree Assault (RCW 9A.36.001) and Drive-by Shooting (RCW 9A.3.045). The investigation remains ongoing.
