What is SR 22 Insurance?
Sometimes an SR22 is also called a certificate of financial responsibility (CFR) filing. Having an SR22 form on file just means you are fulfilling the state’s minimum auto insurance coverage requirements.
If you let your SR 22 insurance coverage cancel, your insurer is obligated to notify the state with a SR 26 form and if you go long enough without the SR-22, you may need to pay the state to reinstate your license once you get a new SR22.
Is an SR22 the same as auto insurance?
An SR22 is evidence you have car insurance coverage. Sort of like the Proof of Insurance Card you would show to law enforcement if you were pulled over but the SR 22 is submitted to the Department of Licensing (DOL).
Having an SR22 is merely evidence you are meeting the DOL’s minimum auto insurance requirements and is just an addition to your auto insurance policy. Your insurance carrier is verifying to the DOL that you have liability insurance in force with them and they guarantee to alert the state if your insurance coverage terminates.
I Don’t Own a Cars or Truck– Can I Get an SR22?
Yes, you can get an SR-22 even if you do not own a vehicle. If the Department of Licensing (DOL) requires you carry an SR22 to keep your driver’s license, we can help even if you don’t own a cars or truck.
You can get what is called a BroadForm Insurance plan, or more frequently “Drivers License Insurance”.
A Broad Form plan covers you when you are driving almost any vehicle, owned or non-owned.
There are disadvantages to insuring your license. Make sure to talk with one of our knowledgeable insurance representatives when making this important decision.
For more information about Broad Form insurance, have a look at our Broad Form insurance coverage/ Driver’s License Insurance page.

Where Can I Find Cheap SR22 Insurance Coverage?
Affordable SR22 insurance near Cowlitz County is usually found at an independent insurance agency like Mid-Columbia Insurance due to the fact that we represent numerous insurers that compete for your business. The General, Geico, and Progressive spend millions marketing on TV trying to convince you that they can save you cash by buying insurance coverage online only to disappoint.
As an independent insurance agent, we work for you, shopping an entire list of car and truck insurers to find for you the best SR22 insurance prices in Cowlitz County.
A lot of other auto insurance agencies, who we call AllStateFarmers, represent only their one insurance company and just have one price they can offer.
We work for you, comparing the prices and coverages of multiple auto insurers and providing you a choice.
Can My Current Company File My SR 22?
Your present insurance company can most likely attach an SR 22 to your insurance policy yet this may cause problems for you. Lots of insurance companies consider themselves “preferred” and do not want to cover individuals that need an SR-22. They may increase your rates substantially and even cancel your plan at renewal when they find out you need an SR 22.
Can I get an SR-22 from a different insurer?
Yes, you can have a different insurance agent submit your SR22 with the state and not inform your current insurance provider. If they don’t inspect your driving record, and unless you had a crash they most likely will not, you may be able to keep your preferred vehicle insurance policy rates.
If you do not want to tell your existing insurance coverage representative about your need for an SR22, Mid-Columbia Insurance can write a simple insurance policy on your ‘s license (called Broad Form) with the SR 22 so you can maintain your existing “preferred” insurance coverage on your cars and also have an SR-22 on your license.
Just How Much Is SR 22 Insurance in Cowlitz County?
The typical cost of SR 22 insurance coverage should be less than $5 monthly when included in a standard auto insurance policy since most insurers just charge about $25 per 6 month policy term for an SR 22 filing. This is merely the charge the insurer charges to manage the documents required by the state to inform them that you have an active SR22 filing. If your company charges more, you might want to get a new quote and we would love to help!
Why, then, does SR 22 insurance coverage appear so pricey? An SR22 is simply a rider on your regular vehicle insurance policy. If it is expensive, it is because the car insurance rate is based on your driving record. Did you get a ticket for driving under the influence? Numerous traffic tickets? Involved in a wreck? Been without insurance? Clearly something took place to cause you to need the SR22 and this is what triggers your insurance to be higher than others.
So, Just how much will SR-22 insurance cost? SR22 insurance coverage is inexpensive. It is your driving record that is costly.
How Long Do I Need to Carry An SR22?
Usually you need to carry an SR 22 for 3 years yet it may be more or less depending on the court and your circumstances.
The best way to figure out how long you are going to need to carry an SR22 is to call the Washington Department of Licensing directly and ask them.
What Takes place If I Ever Terminate My SR 22 Insurance?
If your SR22 insurance coverage terminates while an SR22 is still mandated, the state will certainly suspend your driver’s license till you get another SR 22 submitted once more as well as you might have to pay the reinstatement fees again to get your driver’s license back.
When your SR22 cancels, the insurance provider is required to file an SR 26 with the Department of Licensing to inform them that you no longer have active insurance.
If you are pulled over by the police while your SR22 is out of force, you probably will get a ticket for driving while suspended, which will hike up the cost on your insurance even higher.
How Can I Obtain The Lowest SR 22 Insurance Rates?
The lowest SR22 insurance coverage prices can be obtained by looking into prices of a few insurance companies that focus on SR22 insurance. The easiest way to do that is to just call Mid-Columbia Insurance. We work with numerous insurance companies that provide SR22 insurance– and we write a great deal of it.
If you live in Washington and must get your license unsuspended, we can help. The SR-22s are filed online with the state so you can get your drivers license back fast.
If you live in Washington you most likely received your ticket here and therefore need a Washington SR22 but, if you require an out-of-state SR 22, we can also do Oregon SR-22s, California SR 22s, Idaho SR22, as well as almost every other state.
Can I Get An SR22 Without Having A Car Insurance Policy?
If you do not have auto insurance coverage, you can get an SR 22 by beginning a new insurance plan and asking the insurer to submit the SR22 for you.
Washington just calls for minimal liability limits on the plan so it does not need to be pricey to get insured. Naturally, the more tickets you have on your driving history, the more your insurance policy will certainly cost you.
A simple telephone call and we can have your insurance policy started and your SR-22 on its way to the state.
Does SR22 Hike Insurance Rates?
Needing an SR 22 hikes your insurance policy rates because most preferred insurance providers do not desire to cover a person who requires an SR22 and because of the tickets you probably have on your driving history.
The actual SR22 filing will just add around $25 to your vehicle insurance policy, however you will most likely have to obtain an insurance policy with a “High Risk” auto insurance company willing to gamble on covering you.

About Cowlitz County
Cowlitz County is a county located in the U.S. state of Washington. As of the 2010 census, its population was 102,410. The county seat is Kelso, and its largest city is Longview. The county was formed in April 1854. Its name derives from the anglicized version of the Cowlitz Indian term Cow-e-liske, meaning either ‘river of shifting sands’ or ‘capturing the medicine spirit.’
Cowlitz comprises the Longview, WA Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is also included in the Portland-Vancouver-Salem, OR-WA Combined Statistical Area.
Prior to the Europeans’ arrival to the area, it was inhabited by numerous Native American tribes, with the Cowlitz tribe being the largest. They were drawn to the region by the abundance of salmon. The Cowlitz are considered to be the first regional inhabitants to engage in commerce as they traded extensively with other tribes in Western and Eastern Washington. The Cowlitz Indian population declined significantly from the 1829-1830 smallpox outbreak.
