What is SR-22 Insurance coverage?
Often an SR22 is called a certificate of financial responsibility (CFR) filing. Having an SR 22 form on file just indicates you are fulfilling the state’s minimum vehicle insurance requirements.
If you let your SR22 insurance coverage cancel, your insurance provider is required to notify the state with a SR-26 form and if you go long enough without the SR 22, you might need to pay the state to reinstate your license once you get a brand-new SR 22.
Is an SR-22 the same as car insurance?
An SR22 is proof you have car insurance. Similar to the Proof of Insurance Card you would show to a cop if you were pulled over but the SR-22 is filed with the Department of Licensing (DOL).
Having an SR 22 is just proof you are satisfying the DOL’s minimum automobile insurance requirements and is simply a rider on your vehicle insurance . Your insurance company is verifying to the state that you have liability insurance in force with them and they are required to inform the DOL if your insurance cancels.
I Don’t Own a Vehicle– Can I Still Get an SR22?
Yes, you can get an SR-22 even if you do not own an auto. If the Department of Licensing (DOL) mandates you carry an SR-22 to reinstate your drivers license, we can help even if you don’t own a vehicle.

They may increase your prices considerably or even terminate your plan at renewal when they find out you need an SR22.
Can I get an SR-22 from a different insurance provider?
Yes, you can have a different insurance agent file your SR22 with the DOL and not notify your existing insurance company. If they do not check your driving history, and unless you were involved in a crash they most likely won’t, you probably can keep your preferred car insurance prices.
If you don’t want to tell your present insurance coverage representative about your need for an SR22, Mid-Columbia Insurance can write a standard insurance policy on your driver’s license (called Broad Form) with the SR 22 so you can keep your existing “preferred” insurance on your vehicles as well as have an SR-22 on your license.
How Much Is SR 22 Insurance in Lewis County?
The typical cost of SR 22 insurance ought to be less than $5 each month when included in an ordinary vehicle insurance plan since a lot of insurance providers only charge about $25 per 6 month policy term for an SR22 filing. This is simply the charge the insurance provider charges to deal with the documents needed by the state to inform them that you have an SR22 filing. If your insurer charges more, it is time to get a new quote and we would love to help!
Why, then, does SR-22 insurance seem so expensive? An SR22 is just a rider on your normal vehicle insurance policy. If it is pricey, it is due to the fact that the auto insurance rate is based upon your real driving record. Did you get a DUI? Several traffic tickets? Involved in a crash? Been without insurance? Clearly something happened to cause you to require the SR22 and this is what triggers your insurance coverage to be higher than others.
So, how much will SR22 insurance cost? SR22 insurance coverage is inexpensive. It is your driving record that is not.
How Long Am I Required to Carry An SR22?
Normally you are required to carry an SR22 for 3 years but it might be more or less depending upon the judge and also your circumstances.
The best way to find out how long you will really need to have an SR-22 is to call the Washington Department of Licensing directly at (360)902-3900 and find out.
What Happens If I Ever Cancel My SR 22 Insurance?
If, while needed, your SR22 insurance cancels while an SR 22 is still needed, the state will certainly suspend your license until you get another SR-22 submitted once again and also you may have to pay the reinstatement charges once more to get your driver’s license back.
When your SR-22 terminates, the insurance company is obliged to submit an SR-26 with the Department of Licensing to inform them that you no longer have active insurance.
If you are pulled over while your SR 22 is terminated, you probably will receive a ticket for driving while suspended, which will hike up the price on your insurance policy even more.

Can I Obtain An SR22 Without Having Car Insurance Coverage?
If you do not have auto insurance coverage, you can get an SR-22 by beginning a brand-new insurance plan and also asking the insurance provider to file the SR22 for you.
Washington only mandates minimal coverage on the plan so it doesn’t have to be expensive to start. Naturally, the more tickets you have on your driving record, the more your insurance will set you back.
A simple call and we can have your insurance set up and your SR 22 on its way to the DOL.
Does SR-22 Raise Insurance Prices?
Yes, an SR22 increases your insurance policy prices because a lot of preferred insurance providers do not care to insure a person who needs an SR22 and due to the tickets you probably have on your driving history.
The real SR22 filing will only add about $25 to your vehicle insurance rates, yet you will most likely need to get insurance coverage with a “High Risk” car insurer willing to take a chance on insuring you.
