If you only have the state-required $10,000 property damage and wreck a car or truck worth say $20,000, the insurance company will pay the $10,000 but you are accountable for the rest.
Basically, you are self-insuring for anything over the insurance coverage limits you have picked. If you do not intend to have your salary garnished or your possessions sold, seriously think about purchasing higher limits of liability.
Should I drive a vehicle I recently purchased without insurance coverage?
You can’t by law drive a car without insurance coverage. Even if you just now bought it. Washington state mandates all vehicles driven on public roadways to be properly insured. The fact that you just now bought the car does not alter the guideline.
The good news is, if all your currently owned automobiles are insured by one insurer then the insurance coverage on those cars and trucks automatically transfers for a couple of days (consult with your insurance agent to find out specifically the length of time).
