What is Personal Injury Protection Coverage?

1 min read

What is Personal Injury Protection - PIPPersonal injury protection (PIP) is also known as no-fault insurance. If you’re in an auto accident, your PIP insurance can help cover medical expenses, lost wages, and even funeral costs for you and your injured passengers no matter who was at fault for the accident.

PIP coverage also covers you and your resident family member even if you’re not in a car. For example, if you’re injured by a car while walking or riding your bike, your PIP coverage can help cover your injuries.

PIP is optional in Washington but can cover:

  • Medical and hospital expenses: up to $10,000 for each person injured in the accident. Additional coverage is available to increase this limit up to $35,000 per person.
  • Wage loss: up to $200 per week ($10,000 total) for income replacement
  • Loss of services: up to $200 per week ($5,000 total) to pay a non-family member to do household chores you are not able to do, and
  • Funeral expenses: up to $2,000 for each person who died due to the accident.
